Learning to Communicate

Communication is as old as the human civilisation. It signifies a process of coding and decoding and involves sharing ideas, data, information, signals or messages through suitable channels with the objective to persuade, to inform, to entertain, to instruct, to regulate or to express emotions. In the present era of Internet, communication is a tool to carry our ideas, opinions and beliefs effectively across cultures locations and space through e-techniques and technologies. Communication has connected us across this blue planet just like a web. It has prospered our social interactions and has enhanced exchange of ideas, thoughts, and feelings. Relationships are known to rely on good communication and lack of effective communication has always been disastrous for relationship, people and society. We humans are the supreme species on Earth because of our ability to think and communicate.

For a business organization good corporate communication is its lifeline. It is indispensable for realizing the goals and objectives. It is crucial for the smoother organisational functioning fostering decision making, team building, planning and precise coordination. Through guided communication motivation and morale of the employees can be also be maintained. It is helpful in sustaining a good relationship with clients and other stakeholders reducing rumours or any other barriers.

For students aspiring for a professional career effective communication is essential as it provides basis for assessing and evaluating the potential of a candidate, say through personal interviews or a group discussion. The command over the language and ability to express hold the competitive edge. And no matter what career you plan to pursue, learning to express yourself professionally in speech and in writing will help you get there. So let’s learn to communicate effectively for life.
