Profile

Professor Madhulika Kaushik, an MBA and PhD in Marketing, has a teaching and research experience of over 44 year spread over different distinguished national and international Institutions. Having started her career as a research fellow in 1978 and rising to an Associate Professor at the University of Jodhpur, she joined the world of Open and Distance Learning in 1988, as a Reader in Management Studies at IGNOU. She was later selected as a Professor of
Management in IGNOU in 1996 and continued to hold that position till January 2011.Since then she has served as the Education Specialist, Higher education, at the Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver, Canada from Feb 2011-Jan 2014 and as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic at Wawasan Open University, Malaysia From February 2014 to July 2017. She is now serving as the Vice Chancellor, Usha Martin University Ranchi.

Besides being actively involved in the design and development of the Management Programme at IGNOU since its formative years, she also served the University as Director School of Management Studies, Director(Acting), Electronic Media Production Division, Director(Acting)Planning, and the first Director of the National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education.

 

At the COL, her major area of work included ODL policy at national and institutional level, quality assurance at higher education institutions, application of ICT in higher education, capacity building in OER, leadership in universities, ODL material development and research .At WOU she continued to work on ICT enabled ODL delivery and research in the area besides driving OER based Course development In her present assignment as Vice Chancellor, Usha Martin University she has the oversight of
all the academic programmes and processes at the university, is responsible for the growth and strategic direction of the university and is at the helm of its leadership team. The University has attained impressive growth credentials and many accolades under her leadership

Teaching, Research and Publications

Prof. Kaushik’s field of teaching has mainly been in the area of Marketing, with Consumer Behavior, Marketing of Services and Marketing Strategy as the focus areas. She has also taught courses on Marketing communication, Advertising and entrepreneurship, all at the Masters level.
She has conducted teaching assignments with distinction at the University of Jodhpur, International Management Institute, New Delhi; MDI Gurgaon; IIT Roorkee, Centre for Management Development, Modinagar; Infinity Business School, GlobalNxt University Malaysia and IMT ,Ghaziabad.

Dr Madhulika Kaushik has published extensively in the areas of Consumer Behaviour, Services Marketing and Marketing Strategy, ICT in Education, Women’s leadership and entrepreneurship as well as leadership in higher education institutions, also contributing case studies on OER use, technology for learner support entrepreneurship and leadership. She.She has also extended her research into different aspects of distance education, OER and online delivery of education as well as leadership inhigher education. To date she has published numerous journal papers, conference proceedings and edited one textbook.
In the area of ODL she has written numerous course modules, developed video and audio based teaching materials as well as overseen the development of online teaching
materials, including YouTube and Swayam videos

Consultancy

Dr Madhulika has conducted numerous consultancy projects funded by international agencies such as UNDP, UNESCO,FAO, COL ,ILO,British Council, DB as well as the Government of India. She also contributed a report commissioned on ICT in Higher Education in India as part of an ADB project.
Based on her distinguished academic publications, teaching excellence and extensive professional contributions to the community and her contribution to the field of Education,she was also awarded the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini award in year 1998.

While at WOU, she conducted a highly successful, Strategic leadership programme for 25 senior managers of Intel Malaysia, over a six month period. She has also developed specially targeted training programmes for women leaders in higher education and implemented these for senior women faculty in South Asia and Africa and served the University with distinction as its Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic)

Her current research interests include application of ICT in Higher education, emerging pedagogies in HE, use of OER and issues of quality and governance in open learning , Digital marketing and AI applications. Leadership development in higher education and entrepreneurship education for developing and transition economies.
She is the Vice Chancellor at UMU since 1 st February 2022.
