With well-qualified and well-seasoned academicians and multicultural environment, the Faculty of Legal Studies of UMU attracts brilliant students from across the country. The Faculty of Legal Studies has state-of-the-art academic infrastructure and has formulated various cells and societies including Research and Publication Cell, Moot Court, Training and Placement Cell, Entrepreneurship Cell, Cultural Cell, Sports Cell, Debate Society and Quiz Society to develop the personality of its learners holistically.

Law programmes at Usha Martin University are judicious blend of practical and theoretical pedagogy that enhances student’s intellect, make them a knowledge disseminator and enable them to hoist the flag of truth and justice unfailingly. Law programmes offered at The Faculty of Legal Studies are LLM of one and two years, and an integrated law programme B.B.A., LL.B. of five years. All these programmes are modern, socially relevant, economically viable, and employment oriented.

In this video, Dr. Swati Sagar, Head of the Faculty of Legal Studies, shares the growth journey, achievements, and key strengths of the department at Usha Martin University.

She explains that the Faculty of Legal Studies began its academic journey in 2020 with the launch of the BBA LL.B. Integrated Program, which is duly approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI). Over the years, the department has expanded its academic offerings and is also successfully running the LL.M. program for postgraduate students seeking advanced legal education.

Dr. Sagar highlights a significant milestone achieved in 2025 when the department received approval for additional law programs, including BBA LL.B. with an intake of 120 seats and BA LL.B. with an intake of 60 seats. She proudly mentions that the department has witnessed strong student enrollment and growing interest from aspiring law professionals.

One of the major strengths of the Faculty of Legal Studies is its student-focused learning environment and specialized infrastructure. The department provides facilities such as a Moot Court Hall, where students can practice courtroom proceedings and advocacy skills; a Legal Aid Centre that promotes legal awareness and community engagement; and an independent law library equipped with valuable legal resources.
The library provides access to renowned legal journals and databases such as SCC Online, AIR, and other legal publications, enabling students to stay updated with the latest legal developments, case laws, and research. These resources play an important role in enhancing both academic learning and professional competence.

Dr. Sagar emphasizes that the department is committed to making students industry-ready by combining theoretical legal knowledge with practical training, research opportunities, and professional development activities. Through quality education, modern facilities, and experiential learning, the Faculty of Legal Studies aims to prepare competent legal professionals ready to excel in the legal and judicial sectors.
